The high consumption of meat by the world population has generated some issues pertaining to the environment as well as human health. The amount of harmful emissions into the environment is caused by the use of chemical fertilizers to grow crops which are being fed to animals from where we get meat. Meat product, although very yummy, is known to contain high levels of fats, cholesterols and other unhealthy compounds that could lead to heart diseases, high blood pressure and other diseases. Many groups are now advocating veganism—or the choice to become vegan to save the planet and to maintain good health. Since vegans can be protein-deprived due to their diet choice, it is highly recommended that they take natural health supplements to ensure that the body is provided with the needed vitamins and minerals that it requires to function properly.

Proponents of veganism argue that going vegan brings the following benefits:

It will largely improve your health by reducing your risks of developing cancer, kidney and heart diseases, among others.

Being a vegan will help you in your quest to lose weight and have a fitter body.

Because of its high-fiber content, veganism will keep you from being constipated and incurring ulcerative colitis and other bowel diseases.

When you go vegan, you get rid of the unhealthy stuff that can clog your body and make you feel lethargic.

It will help improve your mood.

If you have finally turned vegan and you are worried that your body is not getting all the nutrients it needs, then take time to visit www.healthchemist.co.nz. This site sells a wide variety of natural health products that can be used to supplement a vegan diet.

While the health benefits of going vegetarian or even vegan has already been publicized in various forms of mass media and even with the rapidly increasing number of newly-converted vegetarians and vegans, locating a good vegan restaurant that serves quality vegan fare can be a daunting chore for any serious vegetarian who is really conscious about the absence of any form of meat product in their meals. For the benefit of vegan readers, this article provides a partial list of the best vegan restaurants where quality vegan food and impeccable service come hand in hand.

One of the best vegetarian restaurants is Bliss, located in Brooklyn, New York. Bliss boasts of having only organic and vegan or near-vegan food choices at very reasonable prices. Moreover, this place has a BYOB (Bring Your Own Beer) rule, so the party-loving vegan can always bring along his or her favorite beer or wine to accompany a sumptuous vegan meal.

Another excellent vegetarian restaurant is Greens at San Francisco California. Apart from gourmet organic fare cooked by top chef Annie Sommerville, Greens also boasts of a very scenic location near the waterfront, allowing the discerning vegan to enjoy his or her meal along with excellent scenery. Greens also has an offshoot restaurant called Greens-To-Go which features fast-food vegan dishes, ideal for businessmen, students or urban professionals who need food on the go.

For those vegans who are not hesitant to splurge a bit for an excellent vegan meal at an upscale establishment, the Millennium Restaurant at San Francisco would be an excellent choice. The said restaurant features posh dishes cooked by top chefs, and is quite popular with celebrities and movie stars who want a taste of vegan dishes.

Another top dining choice is located in Columbus, Ohio, called the Dragonfly. This restaurant is a must-see for the adventurous set, with offbeat and quirky vegan dishes that are not for the faint of heart. Examples of the Dragonfly’s fare include tempura yams, raspberry gazpacho and alcoholic fruit smoothes, although it can be quite expensive for the typical middle class vegan.

Another excellent vegan restaurant can be found at Los Angeles, California. Called the Follow Your Heart Market and Cafe, this restaurant is an absolute neighborhood favorite because it features an all-organic vegetarian menu which changes every so often. The quaint ambiance and the affordable dishes also add to the Follow Your Heart Market and Café’s appeal to the general population.

Cupcakes have become extremely popular in recent years because they look irresistible and they are so much fun to eat. No one can resist taking a cupcake or two from a cupcake stand. Cupcakes are far less messy than cakes. They are lovely to admire, convenient to hold, and delicious to eat.

If you often cook or buy cupcakes, the ideal way to display them at a special event or party is on a cupcake stand. Stands for cupcakes are available in a variety of sizes, layouts, and materials. You can purchase a stand that will suit a very formal gathering or you can choose a stand that is light-hearted and fun.

An all-white, tiered cupcake stand will be ideally suited for a wedding as the shape echoes the tiers of a traditional wedding cake. Tiny edible flowers such as sugared violets can be placed among the cupcakes to create a romantic look.

A stand with removable tiers will be particularly useful as it can be adapted to a wide variety of situations. When you are presenting a lot of cupcakes to a large gathering, you can use all the tiers available. If you are bringing cupcakes to a small group, you can remove several tiers and the desserts will be wonderfully displayed.

These stands can easily adapt to a very informal gathering. A cupcake stand can be the centre of attention at dessert time when you are attending an outdoor barbecue or family reunion. They are also ideal to have at birthday parties for children.

Of course, you do not have to utilize a cupcake stand solely to display cupcakes. These stands are also perfect for displaying other delicious small items such as baked squares, small tarts, and muffins. Why not cover put them in a cupcake case so the various tiers are best showed off? Some of the layers can be used for small sandwiches or appetizers.

If you want to break with all tradition, you can let your imagination run wild. Use your cupcake stand to hold vegetables and dip, or place chocolate-dipped strawberries on the tiers.
You will find that a cupcake stand is a very handy item to have available, since you will be able to find many uses for it besides using it to serve cupcakes. They can easily be decorated to match your party theme. When you are planning your next event, be sure to include cupcakes as an important part of the festivities.

You are going through the midpoint of your pregnancy when you are 20 weeks pregnant. It is the time when your belly will begin to grow steadily. The growth happens as a result of the enlargement of your uterus. You may experience many unfamiliar symptoms during this time. Do not be panic stricken if what you are enduring is different from the other pregnant women. Bear in mind that every body type is different and therefore, every pregnancy is different.

In this point of time, you may experience digestive problems due to the steady growth of uterus. Digestive problems may cause gas and constipation. Women normally suffer from swelling in legs and hands. It happens due to the increasing pressure of uterus. Vaginal discharge is a major symptom when you are going through the midpoint of your pregnancy. It can be an uneasy experience. However, it is necessary to protect the birth canal. You may experience headache when you are into a windowless place or when your body heat rises. Experiencing mild dizziness is another symptom. Morphed belly button is a result of your uterus pushing forward. The belly button will go back to the normal condition after the baby birth.

Staying comfortable when you are 20 weeks pregnant is must. For this reason, you should watch your movement carefully. If you observe closely, you will see that your mood swing is reducing as the pregnancy proceeds. You will feel calm and more composed.

Given the mainstream fascination with different recipes and methods of cooking food, it comes as no surprise that eating only raw foods will send many people’s eyebrows into orbit.

Raw foodism or the practice of eating only raw foods, constituting of unprocessed, uncooked and organic foods as a large percentage of one’s diet. is a relatively new and uncommon practice which may freak most people out. And yet enthusiasts and advocates point out the advantages of consuming uncooked and unprocessed foods which are supposedly health, energy and vitality boosters.

Enthusiasts say that raw foods consist of natural enzymes. These enzymes helps in building proteins and maintain a stronger body—all of which are lost when these foods are heated or cooked above a temperature of 40 °C (104 °F). There are also several subtypes of raw foodists, including raw vegans who subsist mainly on raw fruits, vegetables and other plant matter, while there are also raw (animal food) diet enthusiasts who subsist mainly upon raw or uncooked animal products such as raw dairy, raw eggs, meat-organs, century eggs and the likes. This article provides the reader with several tips for learning to eat raw foods, especially for the benefit of those who want to try out this alternative lifestyle and diet.

First, one must understand that consuming a raw food diet entails not only a change in diets but rather signifies an entire lifestyle shift. It will entail a shift in how you prepare and select foods, since some foods need advanced planning and preparation before they can be consumed raw. Rice and other grains for instance must be soaked or sprouted before they can be considered healthy and fit for human consumption.

Sincere raw foodists also avoid processed foods so hotdogs and most fast food dishes are definitely out of the menu, a fact which may be a huge inconvenience for business types or urban professionals who subsist on food that can be prepared quickly and consumed while on the go.

Food professionals and raw food enthusiasts also recommend the purchase of a reliable food processor, blender, juicer and dehydrator for the preparation of gourmet raw food. A potential raw foodist must then be prepared for the additional strain on his or her budget in order to make room for all these necessary appliances and kitchen utensils. Also, the processes that raw food needs to undergo before it can replicate the taste of cooked food tends to be a lengthy one. A potential raw foodist must also be prepared for the potential effects on his or her social life and dining choices since it will be more difficult for him or her to find decent restaurants that cater to his or her food choices and uneducated people may even mock their decision to go raw.

Despite the fact that many people turn to vegetarianism as an effective means for improving their general health and well-being, many are also drawn into this alternative lifestyle and diet for ethical or socio-political reasons. This article aims to discuss the merits of subscribing to a vegetarian lifestyle due to ethical or socio-political beliefs or principles.

Ethical vegetarianism relies on the tenet that moral consideration must be extended to all living things, including animals and even plant matter. According to ethical vegetarians, the said expansion of moral community was a mark of genuine progress of nations and humanity in general. Ethical vegetarians argue that eating meat, fish and poultry products constitute a staunch violation of the animal’s rights and welfare. They also aim to educate people about the real conditions that a bred animal has to undergo in order to become meat.

People who go vegan for ethical reasons do not like the idea of hurting animals and they show their strong opposition to this by not eating meat or any meat product for that matter. Ethical vegetarians staunchly oppose the use of holding pens, stun devices and electric shock gadgets that are typically used in a commercial poultry or cattle farm, saying that the use of these gadgets are cruel and unnecessary.

Ethical vegetarians and animal rights activists likewise argue that people should be more compassionate to animals because research has shown that “animals have an emotional life; many can feel pain. Some animal species are said to be more sensitive than us, human beings, which means that they experience forms of pain or other kinds of emotions more intensely. Because ethical vegetarians believe that animals can in fact feel pain and suffering just like humans, they take a moral stand against being party to inflicting pain to animals by slaughtering and eating them.

Ethical vegetarians also argue that eating or consuming meat based products are in fact detrimental to one’s health and general well-being. They point to the rising number of people inflicted with heart disease or ailments because of a meat heavy diet. Also, they say that eating meat is in fact inherently wasteful, pointing out the fact that it takes over 17 pounds of grain to produce a single pound of meat, calculated through the amount of grain needed to feed and sustain live cattle, poultry or meat products. If seen through this lens, it can be said that meat eating is wasteful if compared to having a vegetarian diet. Ethical vegetarians also point to the detrimental effects of meat production to the environment, including water and air pollution.

A lot of people are now into healthy eating to help them keep the extra pound off for good. A healthy and well-balanced diet should include a hefty amount of vegetables to supply the body with all the necessary nutrients that can be obtained from plant sources. There are so many ways to prepare and serve vegetables in delicious and appetizing manner.

Do you want to know some of the healthiest veggies out there? Take a look at this list and start stocking up your fridge with these nature’s bounty.

Sweet potatoes – Rich in antioxidants and good source of calcium, fiber and iron.

Broccoli – High in folic acid, calcium and vitamin C. It is also packed with antioxidants which help protect your body from free radicals.

Onions – Help lower blood sugar levels, reduce the risk of developing some cancers and promote gastrointestinal health.

Collard greens – Contains high levels of vitamin E, beta-carotene and calcium.

Carrots – Considered as the best source of pro-vitamin A carotenes. These also help regulate blood sugar levels.

Kale - Known for its detoxifying ability and helps to reduce the risk of developing cancer.

Spinach - Protects the body from a plethora of diseases like heart disease, osteoporosis and arthritis.

Eggplant – Has protective effects on the brain and packed with fiber, potassium and copper.

Asparagus – Promotes healthy skin and contains folate, potassium, vitamin B6 and fiber.

Cucumber - Good for the skin, bones, ligaments and muscles because of its hydrating property.

Squash – A good source of anti-inflammatory nutrients such as beta-carotene and vitamin C. It’s also rich in magnesium, fiber and potassium.

A vegan diet is undoubtedly healthier than the Standard American Diet. However, due to the body’s inability to efficiently metabolize the iron found in plant-based foods, vegetarians and vegans may have increased iron needs, despite eating plenty of iron rich foods. Check with your doctor to determine if iron supplements can help replace any deficiencies in your diet.

While it is true that becoming a vegetarian will surely improve a person’s health and general well-being by significantly reducing the amount of fat and cholesterol in the body, vegetarians and vegans alike will have to grapple with a new health issue—that of protein deficiency.

Because vegetarians and vegans rely only on vegetables, fruits and other plant matter for their body’s dietary needs, it is inevitable that the absence of meat, fish or poultry products in one’s diet will undoubtedly reduce the body’s protein reserves. This article provides several sources of healthy proteins for the newly converted vegan or vegetarian who is worried by a possible protein deficiency.

An excellent source of protein for the vegan is the quinoa and other whole wheat grains. A single cup of cooked quinoa contains as much as 18 grams of protein, as well as nine grams of fiber—enough to supplement your body’s protein needs for a day. Those living on a budget will also be happy to know that whole wheat grains are cost-effective, amounting only to $1.50 a pound.

Another good source of protein for the sincere vegan is beans, lentils, and peas which contain by as much as 13.4 grams of protein per serving. Beans and peas are also easily accessible even in the most backward areas, and so vegans will usually have no trouble finding these.

One of the most popular sources of protein are also tofu as well as other products made from soy like soy yogurt, edamame, soy ice cream, soy nuts, soy cheese, and soy milk, which contain up to 7-10 grams of protein per serving. Aside from being a good protein source, tofu and soy products are also versatile foods that can be added to almost any dish without having an adverse effect on the taste.

Nuts, such as almonds, sesame seed, walnuts peanuts, cashews and sunflower seeds, are also excellent protein sources. Keep in mind however that nuts and seeds tend to be high in fat and so should be consumed only in moderate amounts or as a snack or a post-workout meal.

Some of the popular choices for vegetarians or newly-converted vegans who are still trying to get used to a no-meat diet are seitan, veggie burgers and other meat substitutes available in the market. Apart from satisfying your craving for a hearty and filling meal, these commercially available meat substitutes and veggie burgers are also packed with protein that the body needs in order to function well. If you are in a rush or just need a quick protein source, you can also drink protein shakes and supplements available in your local grocery store.

Today’s fast paced world has driven more and more people to consume fast foods, given the fact that these are relatively affordable and can be found almost everywhere, making it one of the top choices for people on the go who usually lack the time to prepare home based meals. However, such foods are usually high in fat and cholesterol, thereby contributing to the rising number of people with heart disease and other related ailments. It is for this reason that folks are turning to healthier eating choices, including the choice to become vegetarians.

Vegetarianism, the practice of consuming a plant-based diet which may or may not include dairy or eggs, is quickly becoming fashionable among young people and even those in their senior years. This article discusses several benefits of becoming a vegetarian.

One obvious benefit of becoming a vegetarian lies in the fact that doing so will substantially increase a person’s longevity. Research from Loma Linda University and the China Health Project has shown that vegetarians live about seven years longer, and vegans (who eat no animal products) about 15 years longer than meat eaters. Studies also showed that vegetarians and vegans have lesser chances of getting cardiovascular diseases, particularly since vegetables and fruits contain substantial amounts of antioxidants which are good for the heart.

Budget conscious moms and individuals will also appreciate the fact that going vegetarian or vegan will also reduce your food bills, since vegetables tend to cost less than meat products. In fact, you can save up to $4,000 a year if you do decide to go vegetarian or vegan. Going vegetarian can also reduce your risk of getting certain cancers because vegetables aid in strengthening the body’s immune system, making it more efficient in fighting off and eliminating cancerous cells. Weight conscious individuals will also appreciate the slimmer build and substantial weight loss that vegetarians undergo once they decide to shift to a plant based diet. Vegetarians also tend to have stronger bones than meat eaters.

Apart from the health benefit that becoming a vegan will afford you, consuming a plant-based diet also has other socio-political implications. Becoming a vegetarian will surely express your support for animal rights, since approximately 22 million animals are slaughtered every day for American meat-eaters alone. Refusing to eat meat will not only make you healthier, it will also signify the advancement of the campaign for animal rights and welfare. Environmentalists will also appreciate the fact that vegetarians actually contribute to the reduction of water and air pollution, if taken within the context of the pollution produced by cattle and poultry farms.

Given all these reasons, people are strongly encouraged to try and consider becoming vegetarians or vegans themselves.
